April Ross
April Ross was one of only a few women beach volleyball stars who won medals during several Olympics. She is set to compete in Tokyo to compete for her third Olympic gold medal along with Alix Klineman who is a first time Olympian. Ross is hoping to secure the Olympic the first medal of gold however, she also hopes for even more. In fact, at 39, it could be her final chance to do so. Her confidence is high, however. Ross was reported by NBC Boston as saying that when you perform at your very top, even if you play well we will get the gold. Also, it's the result of luck. Ross was born in Costa Mesa, California in the year 1982. Her parents and her sister resided there. Ross competed in many sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. In addition to playing indoor volleyball, she also played basketball and jogged track as a pre-collegiate athlete. But she stood out during this game. During her high school career she was a middle blocker outside hitter and setter in the court for volleyball as per her bio at the college. The results of her efforts were acknowledged by her being named 1999 Gatorade's Circle Of Champions National players of the year. Her volleyball skills also brought her an Orange County Athlete of the Awards in 2000. Ross and Klineman may have started working together in 2017, but Ross was already an established volleyball player before they teamed up. As a matter of fact, Ross has won several major tournaments in her career along with her two teammates. One of them is a volleyball legend. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years between 2007 and 2013. Also, she coached Klineman as well as herself. Kessy and Ross were a formidable force in the international circuit, winning a 2009 world title as a team. The duo eventually captured an Olympic silver medal during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. They were beaten out for the gold by the legendary duo comprising Misty and Kerri Walsh (Jennings). Ross Jennings was Walsh Jennings partner in fate as Maytreanor resigned. In 2016, the pair took bronze at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a college athlete with the Trojans of USC prior to the start of her professional career. She played in high school and in before hitting the beaches as a professional. It was a successful career for Ross in the college level. In 2000 she was voted Pac-10 Freshman and NCAA Freshman of the Year. She was also named an All-American. She was also one of the key players to help the Trojans make it to the Final Four. The second season of her career, she experienced a terrible personal tragedy, but earned the distinction of being an All-American. Over the course of her final two seasons with the Trojans they helped achieve consecutive championships. Her individual achievements have cemented her as a volleyball legend. Ross was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the best female college player. Ross played international relations as a student at USC. Margie Ross never saw her daughter make it to the top of beach volleyball. Ross's mom died from breast carcinoma in the year 2001. Ross had just become an undergraduate student in the second year at USC. However, she keeps her parents close to her the heart. In addition, Margie remains a source of motivation for her at the beach as well as in everyday life.
