Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born into a musical family on 9 August 1963 in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel star Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. as well as a cousin of the singing sensation Dionne Warwick. The singer began her singing career in the choir at her church The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark in the early years of her childhood at the age of 15 was singing backing vocals professionally alongside her mother on Chaka Khans 1978 hit Im Every Woman. Then she went on to join the backing vocals of Lou Rawls and Jermaine as well as her mom. In 1981, she began working as a singer with New York's funk band Material. It brought her first of her six Grammys. The Whitney album followed in 1987 and the singles Where Do Broken Hearts GO and I Wanna Dance With Somebody helped to expand on the popularity of her debut album. However, it was the 1992 film The Bodyguard that solidified her standing as an artist with the highest sales. The film, and her performance in it was not well received, but the soundtrack as well as her version of the song by Dolly Parton I Will Always Love You charted for several months in the charts, and she sold over 44 million singles and albums worldwide. In the same year she had her daughter Bobbi Brown, she got married to Bobby Brown of the ex-New Edition group. At this point, her documented usage of drugs began. In 1996 she began to be a frequent drug user.
Dana Bash (also known as Dana Ruth Schwartz) is a CNN reporter, anchorwoman and political correspondent.
